Frequently Asked Questions for Employers

Is online education as good as on-campus education?

The quality of online education varies as much as that of on-campus education. Quality ranges from truly exceptional to totally inadequate - as does the quality of degree programs offered via traditional classrooms on college campuses. Neither format is inherently better. There is no substitute for careful evaluation of the curriculum, faculty, program design, and track record of each program. MEPP's high ratings by independent higher-education associations, and continued enrollments from world-class employers, attest to the high quality that the program consistently delivers.

How can I help my employee determine if MEPP is the right program for him/her?

We suggest you discuss career development goals with your employee, and then together evaluate degree program alternatives with respect to the following criteria: curriculum; institution; faculty; value; program format; and student support. Specific questions that we suggest you explore with your employee are listed on the page Choosing the Right Degree Program.

Is MEPP accredited?

Yes. The University of Wisconsin-Madison Graduate School, under which MEPP operates, is accredited by the North Central States Association.

What is the relationship of University of Wisconsin-Madison and other University of Wisconsin campuses?

The University of Wisconsin-Madison is the flagship university of the UW System. MEPP is part of the UW-Madison's College of Engineering*, one of the top-ranked engineering colleges in the US.

Why is MEPP more expensive than some other programs my employee is considering?

MEPP is thoroughly committed to delivering the highest educational value for each dollar and hour invested. MEPP's awards, graduation rates, and employers represented in the program all attest to our proven delivery of promised quality and value. Many MEPP students complete projects as part of their studies that more than offset the cost of their tuition, even before graduation. The immediate applicability of MEPP studies, combined with no interruption to work schedule and travel, and a high graduation rate, enables MEPP to deliver a high rate of return to employers.

How does MEPP compare with an MBA or an MS degree?

MEPP is for engineers who want to grow in their effectiveness as leaders of engineering projects, programs, and organizations. The program curriculum has been developed to help engineers achieve that goal. MEPP addresses many of the same competencies as an MBA but does so in a way that directly relates to the daily responsibilities of engineers and engineering managers. Although MEPP is an engineering degree, it is interdisciplinary, engaging students and faculty from all engineering disciplines, whereas a traditional MS degree is discipline-specific. The best match is determined by carefully comparing program curriculum and an employee's career development plan.
